#fundchat 101: How to Participate in the Conversation

Welcome to #fundchat!

#fundchat is a weekly “chat” on Twitter for nonprofit fundraising, development and marketing professionals. #fundchat takes place every Wednesday at 9 pm EST. Each week, a new topic is presented with a list of 5-10 questions for discussion. The moderator kicks things off and pitches out a new question every 5 or 10 minutes.

Here are some tips for those who are new to #fundchat:

  • Follow @fundchat on Twitter. All of the questions for the chat come from this Twitter account. Following this account will ensure that you don’t miss a question or important comment.
  • Follow @brendankinney who generally moderates the chats.
  • Review the topic and questions for that week so you can start thinking of witty and insightful responses.
  • Tune in at 9 p.m. (EST) to join the conversation. You can follow the #fundchat hashtag through a saved search on your favorite Twitter client OR you can use the Twebevent that has been setup just for #fundchat tweeps.

The best advice is: jump right in! Many people “lurk” before participating in the conversation…this is a good way to get acclimated. But #fundchat participants are very warm and welcoming, so don’t hesitate to share your thoughts and insights from the get-go.
